Lucky Snow: Swatch 2011 Christmas Special

this year's Swatch Christmas Special is quite a departure from the usual Yuletide theme:

named "Lucky Snow " (GZ259S) in honour of Shanghai – home of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel – whose unique and modern Pudong skyline ablaze with fireworks is recreated on the watch's special packaging. this Swatch Original Gent features deep cranberry red straps and casing surround a matching metallic sunbrushed dial offset by silvered hands and indexes with the Chinese character for twelve at 12 o'clock.

the rather understated design is capped by a snowglobe housing a tiny pagoda:

in reference to the city's Nanshi (Old Town) district, an amusing contrast to the bright lights and the buzz of the metropolis. this Swatch Special is limited to 7777 individually numbered pieces and will be available worldwide in December.

also part of the 2011 Swatch Xmas Collection is a New Gent called Golden Rebel (SUOZ119)

and a Regular Gent sized model "Shimmer Ray" (GZ250)

both are available for general release worldwide next month.

NEW Swatch x Jeremy Scott Collection!!!

following the huge success of his first collaboration with Swatch earlier this year, American fashion designer Jeremy Scott will launch a new 5-piece collection on 14 September during New York Fashion Week.

these include:

Melted Minutes (GZ261, Gent)

Portrait (SUOZ121, New Gent)

X-Ray Vision (GZ252, Gent)

Punk (GZ251, Gent)

Hypnotic Heart (MX001S, limited and numbered to 777 pcs.)

Eyescapes: Swatch x Rankin

Swatch will soon release a collection of 8 watches created by British photographer and founder of hip fashion magazine Dazed & Confused, John Rankin Waddell, a.k.a. Rankin – who previously worked for the Swiss watch company’s New Gent tv and print campaign last year.

each will feature a metallic sunbrushed dial printed with a captivatingly decontextualized human iris taken from a series of photographs the artist did in 2007 called "Eyescapes"

five of these – all in black – will be limited to 777 individually numbered box sets:

while the remaining 3 in black, white and transparent are for general release and sold separately

Swatch x Rankin Eyecsapes are scheduled for release on 1 June 2011.

after sitting on this info since December, i can finally let the cat out of the bag when i was told the designer himself publicly announced his collaboration on twitter.

American fashion designer Jeremy Scott – whose work with Adidas and Longchamp have been hugely successful, can now also include "Swatch Artist" under his belt:

imbued with the designer’s Pop Art sensibilities, the set of three New Gent models include:

Lightning Flash (SUOZ104)
 

Opulence (SUOZ105)
 

and the Winged Swatch (SUOZ103), an unmistakable signature of his:

 

in all three watches it is evident that the designer wanted to somewhat alter the proportions and blur the appearance of the very identifiable Swatch shape with the use of bezel caps and jagged banding.

these are exciting times for Swatch collectors like me particularly with the return to strong artist collaborations which peaked in the early 90′s. i have been privy to other cool and awesome Swatchy stuff coming soon and i am most impressed, giddy even with what i’ve seen so far. Swatch got its groove back!

as part of their Spring 2011 offering, Swatch has just launched The Love Collection. named "Blessing of Love" (blue) and "Belief of Love" (pink), these two new gent watches are presented as a special edition of only 777 boxed sets worldwide.

6 days of fun, merriment, lots of catching up and food! it was a success. =D

the excitement never ends. Swatch will soon be launching yet another special edition for release during the 2010 Holiday Season.

presenting the Swatch Haute Couture Collection:

a numbered edition on 777 box sets, these Swatches made in collaboration with Jakob Schlaepfer, a Swiss textile manufacturer who supplies and produces for Parisian Haute Couture houses.

the men’s model, done in black PVD coating, is produced in the yet to be released brand new Irony Big line with a bold and masculine red & black theme carried throughout the watch.
